The Conduct of Battle
Attack & Defence
- Attack is based on troop attack value × numbers.
- Defence includes terrain, forts, rivers, amphibious penalties, and multiple defenders.
- Defenders fight sequentially; the garrison is assaulted last.
Forts & Cannons
- Cannons reduce forts during battle.
- Without cannons, forts are difficult to break—yet conquest may still be possible with overwhelming strength.
- Even a failed assault can weaken fortifications for the next turn.
Battle Reports & Tactics
- Each battle may apply a random Tactics modifier (+0% to +25%).
- Reports list participating forces, casualties, and modifiers (river crossing, amphibious assaults, terrain, forts).
- Losers retreat to friendly lands or ports where possible.
